British shirtmaker and Royal Warrant holder, Turnbull & Asser, has delved into its archive for the inspiration behind its new limited edition Evening Shirt collection comprising of seven contemporary dress shirts, based on classic styles.
Looking back at old bespoke orders from customers to imagery of famous clientele past and present, the Evening Shirts collection has taken the best in silhouette, fabric and detailing to create a set of uniquely impressive shirts, in an elegant tailored fit. With a focus on craftsmanship and attention to detail, each piece brings an element of individuality and refined confidence to the typical dress shirt. The bib-front silhouette comes in a blackwatch tartan made from soft brushed cotton, a black West Indian Sea Island Cotton with brushed charcoal cotton insert, as well as a baby blue Sea Island Quality Cotton. The traditional white dress shirt, made in Turnbull’s exclusive herringbone cloth, is reinvented with an exaggerated long point collar with lightweight collar lining – a subtle nod to the Seventies and an elegant pairing with a black bow tie. A monochrome striped grandad collar shirt stands out as one of the bolder pieces in the collection, whilst a seemingly understated navy shirt is made from a fine 100% silk cloth. The final shirt in the collection is one dedicated to the gentleman socialite – a luxurious cream silk shirt with a ruffle front.
“Given our history within shirtmaking, we wanted to celebrate our expert skillset as craftspeople and artisans,” explains Royal Warrant holder, Steven Quin. “It is always interesting to see how much past styles influence what we wear today. This collection aims to pay homage to both the past and present.”
A limited number of shirts are available in each style, making each shirt a collector’s item. Individually hand-made in Turnbull & Asser’s own Gloucester shirt factory by skilled craftspeople, the intricacy and detail of the shirt styles—which are typically only available in bespoke—make them delicate works of art.
The shirts are available online via turnbullandasser.com and in-store from October 2018, starting from £215.00.
