Penzance Art Festival Hightlights

The first Penzance Art Festival launches on 4th June ( until 20th)  bringing together the town’s plethora of artists, galleries and museums for a town-wide celebration of the very best of Penwith art, giving visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the creativity and beauty of this historic coastal town.

Penzance is renowned for being one of the most vibrant and innovative artistic towns in the country, and over 1000 local artists have joined forces to showcase their art with a program packed with workshops, pop up galleries, talks, exhibitions and lectures.

Many of the town’s museums and galleries are opening their doors – including The Hypatia Trust, Penlee House, Newlyn Art Gallery, Morrab Library, The Newlyn School of Art, Space for You, the Arts Society of West Cornwall, and many more. From guided exhibitions to creative family drop-in activities, artist showcases, intriguing talks from some of the areas leading artists and more, the town will be filled with visual art from the very best of Penzance’s artists.



Laura Knight : A Celebration - Penlee House Gallery & Museum

This exhibition is a celebration of the diverse talents of Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970), one of Britain’s best-loved twentieth century artists. Over her long career, Knight painted scenes in Cornwall, Yorkshire and Worcestershire. She became fascinated by performers, especially in the circus, and developed a talent for capturing the extraordinary within the everyday.

Loans in this exhibition have been made possible with a grant from the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund.

Runs until 30th September 2021 10am – 5pm (last admission 4.30pm)

BAIT : Q&A with Mark Jenkin and Mark Kermode

Join Mark Jenkin, writer and director of BAFTA winning film Bait, and Mark Kermode, the leading UK film critic for an enlightening and entertaining Q&A after a screening of this wonderful british film. Tickets for this Q&A can be purchased HERE.

Andy Warhol Q&A

An online talk given by Fiontan Moran from the Tate Modern Gallery in association with Newlyn School of Art.

Fiontan was co-curator of the 2020 Andy Warhol Tate Modern exhibition. The talk will offer an overview of Warhol’s career using the work from the 2020 Tate Modern exhibition as a way to talk about the variety of techniques and varied subject matter that he used.
