Nine of the Best Al Fresco Dining Locations from Across the Globe

With summer on its way, we've selected nine of the world's most beautiful al fresco dining locations.

The newly opened, Bird & Bone at The Confidante Miami Beach showcases Chef Richard Hales interpretation of the American culinary landscape. Hales sources a menu that reflects the heart and soul of the country from independent small farms and organic butchers, touching on his passion for Southern dining. Bird & Bone includes The Koop, an in-house farmers market and to-go section. The American-inspired menu features daily specials like the aptly named “Bone of the Day” and “Bird of the Day.” The enticing new outdoor terrace is open year round to enjoy the Miami sunshine.

Built to the highest eco standards, and overlooking the golden sands of Mawgan Porth, The Scarlet’s al fresco dining commands one of the most beautiful views in Cornwall. Head Chef Tom Hunter creates a daily changing menu, ensuring the dishes are bursting with local sourced and seasonal ingredients, and you can enjoy the delicious wine menu (with lots of English wines) as you look over the surfers below.

UXUA Casa Hotel’s restaurant is located on the picturesque Quadrado, a grassy hilltop square closed to traffic and anchored at one end by the simple white, 400-year-old São João Batista church overlooking the sea. Serving locally-sourced Bahian fusion cuisine characterised by fresh, local seafood, the restaurant is located next to the “Table of the Old” where the village elders gather to drink, sing and play guitar.  A favourite is moqueca made with whatever white fish has been caught that day, plus fat prawns, garlic, coconut cream, chilli, sweet peppers, parsley and coriander.

Drawing on the Maldives’s strategic location at the crossing points of the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea and the Arabian Gulf, Dr Ali’s restaurant at Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa Maldives serves authentic flavours, colours and aromas from the region. The dining pavilions in Dr. Ali's are decorated throughout with special artworks and nostalgic artefacts with historical significance to the Maldives – from old nautical instruments such as sextants dating from the spice trade route era, to local herbal etchings and foliage collections.

Located between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, Grand Velas Los Cabos opened its doors on 20th December 2016. Perched dramatically over the golden sands of Los Cabos, restaurant Velas 10 delivers the freshest seafood and finest steaks in a distinctive ambiance with unsurpassed oceanfront views. Designer architecture and wood accents are complemented by lush tropical greenery, marble floors and textured tile tables. Tanks of live seafood and cases of meat invite you to select your own dinner from a fresh assortment of Wagyu beef, lobster and oysters.

Ibiza Gran Hotel is desirably perched on the seafront of Ibiza’s south-eastern coast with each suite boasting spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and Ibiza Old Town. The hotels 137 suites are thoughtfully and stylishly decorated in warm, neutral colours and bamboo walls. Food is a way of life in Ibiza and the hotel undoubtedly adheres to this custom in all five of its exceptional fine dining restaurants, ranging from the most popular brunch on the island at Costa Mara Restaurant to the sleek and sophisticated bespoke Japeruvian cuisine at La Gaia.

Republik Beach Club & Grill, at Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa Mauritius, is a contemporary lifestyle destination, features Mediterranean cuisine and barbecue grills, a chic bar where guests can revel in style against a soundtrack of live music, theme nights and performances by local and international DJs, and a bohemian beach lounge. Replete with daybeds, sunken seating, fire pits and communal tables, Republik Beach Club & Grill has been furnished with elegant, exotic touches designed to enrich the tropical landscape.

The Gallivant is a stone’s throw from the sand dunes and 8 miles beach at Camber,  where you can watch some of the best kite surfers in the world…or just kick back and soak up some rays. Whilst the outdoor terrace is beautiful at The Gallivant, we recommend ordering a Gallivant picnic hamper and heading off into the sand dunes of Camber for a truly al-fresco experience.  Everything is supplied; cool box, cutlery, glasses, napkins, even a rug and a Frisbee!

Located in the heart of this beautiful Cotswold town, The Kings Head offers al fresco dining in the rooftops with their beautiful roof terrace. With views across the town, this is a great place to relax with a cocktail ( we recommend their famous ‘Kings Garden’) or some delicious dishes from Chef Russell Hunt.
