The Massey Partnership is delighted to be appointed to represent French boutique hotel, Abbaye de la Bussière. Originally a 12th century Cistercian abbey, the luxury escape is located in the heart of Burgundy between Dijon and Beaune. Situated on the Burgundy Canal, in the tranquil Valley de L’Ouche, the Relais & Châteaux establishment is a short drive from the race track at Dijon Prenois, and the famous Cote d’Or vineyards, including Gevrey Chambertin, Meursault, Vosne Romanée and Pommard.
Purchased by its British owners Clive and Tanith Cummings, in 2005, the Abbaye has evolved into a country house hotel with 20 bedrooms including eight suites and numerous spacious communal areas for guests to retreat to.
Set in 17 acres of beautifully renovated and maintained gardens and parkland, and with two restaurants, including the Michelin-starred The 1131, it is the perfect destination for those who love excellent food and wine.
The building’s original features set this property apart, from the double-height vaulted ceilings, and floors tiles as you enter the hotel, to the hand-etched glass panels and frescos in the dining rooms. The hotel’s bedrooms and suites range in size and style, but each feature sumptuous soft furnishings and antique furniture, and striking views of the park.
It is the ideal location to explore the world famous Cote d’Or vineyards, before indulging in Chef Guillaume Royer’s fabulous signature menu featuring seasonal ingredients from local artisan food producers and farmers, paired with fine wines from the region.
The hotel’s gourmet restaurant, The 1131, has held a Michelin star since 2007, and offers an a la carte menu from Wednesday to Sunday evening, and Sunday lunch, to both residents and guests. During high season, the hotel’s more relaxed Le Bistrot des Moines is open for lunch from Monday to Saturday to all, and to hotel guests on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Those dining can enjoy the 12th century architecture that surrounds them, or on warmer days dine al fresco on the terrace, overlooking the beautiful gardens.
Abbaye de la Bussière is a family affair in the truest sense, with three generations involved in the day-to-day running of the business. Managed by Clive and Tanith, Clive’s parents and two of the couple’s grown up children also live within the grounds of Abbaye, and have key roles in the business. The family’s hospitality runs through every element of the hotel, creating a welcoming environment for both new and returning guests.
Room rates at Abbaye de la Bussière are from 225 Euros (approximately £200) per room, per night. For further information and for reservations: http://www.abbayedelabussiere.fr/en
