Heligan Night Garden

Heligan Night Garden - An Enchanting Lantern Experience

October 2021: Following a series of sell-out festive events last year, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, near St Austell in Cornwall, are delighted to be hosting Heligan Night Garden lantern experiences again this winter. Tickets are now on sale for dates from 20 November, and closer to Christmas there will also be a chance to combine the experience with a visit to see Father Christmas.

The events are a brilliant, and rare opportunity for guests to explore the Gardens as darkness falls, when they will be beautifully lit by a variety of traditional paraffin lanterns, and discover a breath-taking display of flora and fauna lanterns, illuminated within Heligan’s much-loved and iconic locations.

Heligan are working in collaboration with the Liverpool Lantern Company to create the magical lantern experience set amidst the atmospheric Lost Gardens. The company are a leading UK outdoor arts organisation, bringing artists and communities together to create spectacular illuminated installations.

Guests will be directed around the 1.5km one-way route through Heligan’s accessible Gardens, and discover the wildlife that makes the Gardens its home all year round. Guests are encouraged to explore at their own pace, take in the sights and smells, toast marshmallows and chestnuts by the fire bowls, and warm up with the seasonal refreshments on offer. Depending on the speed of travel, the route is expected to take approximately an hour and can be enjoyed more than once! Guests are encouraged to wear suitable clothing and footwear for Cornwall in winter.

Heligan Night Garden sessions will take place on select dates from 20 November 2021 to 2 January 2022, with staggered start times between 4.30 and 7.30pm. Additional sessions have been scheduled due to popular demand, and pre-booking is required to guarantee entry.

Father Christmas will also be making an appearance at Heligan in the run up to Christmas. With his team of Elves, Father Christmas will be welcoming visits by day pass and Night Garden ticket holders, from 11 December.

Children and their families are encouraged to stop in The Melon Yard to write a letter to Father Christmas before they are welcomed to the exclusive Festive Reserve Yard within the Gardens. The Heligan team will ensure guests enter into the Christmas spirit, with music, crackers and festive crafts, as well as marshmallows to toast over the fire.

Children, with their accompanying adults, will be escorted by the Head Elf to meet Father Christmas in the cosy setting of the Head Gardeners Office where they will have the chance to share their stories, hopes and wishes with him. Each child will be gifted a small present to remember their visit by, along with Christmas magic and traditions that reconnect you to the heart and true meaning of the celebrations.

For those visiting during daylight hours, there will be the chance to explore the Gardens, complete the 12 days of Christmas family visual trail, and from 18 December, meet the Christmas donkeys.

Tickets for the Heligan Night Garden Lantern Experience start from £14 for adults. Tickets to meet Father Christmas start from £12 per child. Combined tickets are available, from £17 per adult / child (aged 5+).
