Chasing the Aurora Borealis
Over the last few nights the magical lights of the Aurora Borealis have been spotted swirling above the UK, and in Cornwall espcecially Mother Nature has put on quite the show. Photographer Rebecca Douglas captured these incredible shots over Polzeath last year, whilst staying at Latitude50's Hideaway.
This autumn and winter may offer a great opportunity to see the aurora borealis across the UK! We are approaching solar maximum, the peak of the sun's 11 year cycle which sees an increase in solar activity. During this time, the sun is more active and sends charged particles hurtling towards Earth. When these particles collide with our planet's magnetic field, they excite our gases and as part of this process, they emit a photon and all of these photons dance together to create the stunning natural light display of the aurora. For those wanting to learn how to see and shoot the aurora - photographer and aurora chaser Rebecca Douglas has created an online course https://rebeccadouglas.co.uk/become-an-aurora-chaser-the-course/
