Abstracting the Wild Coast - Newlyn School of Art

Newlyn School of Art is delighted to announce the launch of its newest course, "Abstracting the Wild Coast." This innovative program is designed to inspire creativity and connect participants with the natural beauty of the Cornwall coast, where the school is located.

With a focus on abstract art and the spectacular coastal landscapes of Cornwall, "Abstracting the Wild Coast" offers an exceptional opportunity for artists of all skill levels to explore and express their creative talents in a stunning and inspiring setting. Much of the course will take place in the dramatic landscape of west Cornwall where students will learn how to make studies which will inform the creation of paintings in the studio made with a wide variety of contrasting layered materials such as inks, paints, pastels and coloured papers.

Tutor Sam Boughton will help students to explore use of colour, tonal contrast, gestural and dynamic mark-making, working with wet and dry materials and building up a series of related works of different scales.

To ensure a personalized and enriching experience, class sizes are kept small, fostering a sense of community and allowing for one-on-one interaction with Sam.

Whether you are a seasoned artist or just beginning your creative journey, this course is designed to accommodate all skill levels. No prior experience in abstract art is necessary, making it accessible to a broad range of participants.

The courses take place on:

12 Apr - 14 Apr 2024

15 Jul - 17 Jul 2024

12 Aug - 14 Aug 2024

11 Oct - 13 Oct 2024

£450 per person
